The American flag is flying high above the U.S. Embassy in Havana for the first time in 54 years. Secretary of State John Kerry traveled to Cuba Friday for the official reopening of the embassy, ending the decades-long standstill in U.S.-Cuba relations.

CNN chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper is in Havana for the historical and controversial day, reporting on what life is like for regular Cubans, digging into the challenges that lie ahead, and interviewing Cuban dissidents who believe the oppression and human rights abuses will continue despite today’s symbolic end to one of the last vestiges of the Cold War.
