Will Smith's new movie is out next month

The star says in a new interview he's pondering a future in politics

His new blockbuster doesn’t come out until Christmas Day, but Will Smith is already looking past it.

This frenzied campaign season has so “incensed” the movie star that Smith says he is losing sleep trying to figure out new ways to be “useful in the world.”

“As I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me,” he told the Hollywood Reporter in a podcast out Wednesday. “They might need me out there.”

Smith is out promoting his new movie, “Concussion,” a drama about the effects of head trauma on football players. When asked what he wanted people to take away from the film, he began what sounded like a candidate’s stump speech.

“America is the only place on earth that I could exist,” Smith said. “No other country on earth produces Will Smiths, no other country on earth produces Denzel Washingtons or Oprah Winfreys…or Barack Obamas. You look back historically at how black people have had it on the planet, you know, America is elevating quite well based on the history of our people.”

“I’m a climber,” he continued, “so if I see a mountain, I have to climb it. I’m not a camper.”

But will he be a candidate? Consider it an open question.
