Iman's husband, music legend David Bowie, died in January
Famed supermodel Iman, the widow of rock star David Bowie, announced Friday that her mother had died.
The news comes less than three months after Iman lost Bowie, her husband of almost 24 years, on January 10.
The Somali model and entrepreneur shared the news on social media with a photo from her wedding day.
“Saddened by death of my mom Maryan Baadi. May Allah grant her the highest jennah. I beg that you respect my family’s privacy during our time of grief,” Iman said on her official accounts.
Iman was born in Somalia and raised in Tanzania. She told the Washington Post in 1997 that her mother sold all her jewelry to put her through boarding school, “because that was the best education for girls.”
