Thirty-nine people are now confirmed dead in last month’s landslide in Washington state, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday.
The landslide occurred when a rain-saturated hillside along the Stillaguamish River gave way on the outskirts of the rural town of Oso on March 22.
The toll is up from 37 victims. The medical examiner’s office has positively identified 36 of the victims.
President Barack Obama has announced he will visit the area on April 22, the one-month anniversary of the slide, and meet with search crews.
