A veteran Republican operative brought on by Donald Trump to manage his surrogates is leaving after just two weeks on the campaign.
Kevin Kellems, a former aide to Dick Cheney and veteran Indiana Republican operative, resigned from the campaign Thursday.
“While brief, it has been an interesting experience, and I am proud of the contributions made to our early phase project endeavors,” Kellems wrote in a resignation note obtained by CNN Friday. “I also have enjoyed meeting some fine and dedicated individuals throughout the organization. Look forward to running across several of you going forward.”
The departure comes as Trump has undergone some top-level staff shakeups, including firing longtime campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and bringing on new operatives with more traditional Republican campaign experience, including former Ted Cruz adviser Jason Miller and former Cruz super PAC director Kellyanne Conway.
A source familiar with the reasons behind his departure told CNN Kellems left because of “general dysfunction and disrespect particularly towards younger, eager staff members.”
