News that Angelina Jolie is filing for divorce from Brad Pitt is causing rumbles – and not just on social media.

The US Geological Survey detected a small earthquake Tuesday near Los Angeles just minutes after news broke that the power couple were splitting up.

CNN has confirmed the two incidents are unrelated.

News (of the divorce) has some people panicking.

Who gets George Clooney?

Others are worried about more practical concerns, such as who gets custody of the couple’s children, how they’ll divide their hashtag and most importantly, who gets George Clooney.

Happy Aniston day

Jennifer Aniston, Pitt’s first wife, isn’t active on Twitter, but that hasn’t stopped some fans from declaring “Happy Jennifer Aniston Day!”

Others think she’s above such pettiness.

“Man! I bet Jennifer Aniston be like: *shuts off her TV and phone and goes to soak in a hot bath because she doesn’t revel in emotional pain*,” comedian Richard Jeter tweeted.

Rumbles across the world

The Brangelina split has caused international rumbles from as far away as Japan.

“Please don’t divorce. I really love this couple,” one fan tweeted.

Another from Mexico even joked she would “take a break from love” itself.

Some marketers tried to ride the social wave with a message of their own.

Love is not dead

Amid the broken hearts – and brazen sales pitches – some social media users were doing their best to prove that love endures.

What about Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds they asked?

Others flagged other celebrity couples who haven’t split (yet), from British royals the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Beyoncé and Jay Z.

What about my tattoo?!

Some Twitter users joked about what they should do with their Brangelina tattoos, with American novelist R. L. Stine asking his fans what he should do with his own inked tribute.

While others searched for a silver lining: “There has never been a better time to be a teenage girl in 1994.”
