Couple quietly broke up last year
They share a daughter
Actors Gina Torres and Laurence Fishburne have gone public with their breakup.
The couple split quietly last year, according to a statement from Torres.
“With heavy hearts, Laurence and I quietly separated and began the dissolution of our marriage in the early fall of last year,” the statement said. “There are no bad guys here. Only a love story with a different ending than either one of us had expected.”
The news comes after Torres was photographed last week kissing an unidentified man.
The “Suits” star and Fishburne, who currently stars on “Black-ish,” married in 2002 and their daughter, Delilah, was born in 2007.
Torres will co-parent with Fishburne to raise her, she said.
“Happily, however, our family remains intact and we will continue to raise our daughter together with love and joy and awe,” she said. “As well as raise each other up with respect and love and the continued understanding that we’re in this together, if not side by side.”
The couple have acted in several projects together including the 2003 film “The Matrix Reloaded.”
Torres talked to the New York Times last year about her decision to leave the TV series “Suits,” which entailed commuting between Toronto for filming and Los Angeles where she was living with Fishburne and their daughter.
“My personal life needed to be tended to,” she said.
