TODAY

MONDAY
• ‘Stand your ground’ trial begins. Jury selection is due to start in the case of Michael Drejka, the Florida man who shot dead Markeis McGlockton during a 2018 argument over a parking space. Testimony is sure to touch on the state’s self-defense law and the heavy burden it puts on prosecutors.
• Tucker Carlson returns to the airwaves. The Fox News host is due back after he took what the network said was a previously planned vacation just after falsely telling his viewers that the nation’s white supremacy problem “is a hoax.”
• Observe World Humanitarian Day. Explore ways to help those in need with CNN’s Impact Your World. We know it can feel impossible to make a dent in the world’s massive pile of problems, but a little aid can go a long way.
• The African Games begin in Morocco. The continent’s best athletes converge, with 54 countries expected to be represented across 26 disciplines, from badminton to weightlifting.
TUESDAY
• US Secretary of State is expected at the UN. Mike Pompeo is reportedly expected at the United Nations Security Council gathering in New York. The group is set to debate Middle East security. Pompeo just tweeted a ticking clock to warn of the looming end of the UN arms embargo on Iran. Later this week, Pompeo heads to Ottawa, where he ruffled feathers in May when he called Canada’s claim over the Northwest Passage “illegitimate.”
• Elijah Cummings hosts a forum in Baltimore. When President Trump slammed his district as a “disgusting … mess,” US Rep. Elijah Cummings – whose House committee has launched several investigations into the administration – called it his “moral duty to fight for my constituents.” Cummings hosts a forum on child trauma, a problem that impacts kids nationwide.
• America observes 400 years since slaves arrived. This marks a dismal day in our history, when a Dutch ship carrying 20 enslaved Africans landed in Jamestown, Virginia. Four centuries later, the horrid practice’s roots still shadow our culture and our politics, including the ongoing debate about whether reparations still are owed.
WEDNESDAY
• A full (antigravity) morning. While we Earth-bound folks are filling coffee mugs and prepping backpacks, astronauts Nick Hague and Andrew Morgan are expected to be shoving off to install a key piece of equipment on the International Space Station. Live NASA TV coverage of their spacewalk starts at 6:30 a.m. ET.
SATURDAY
• Leaders of major industrialized nations meet. French President Emmanuel Macron hosts G7 leaders in Biarritz. Fairer capitalism, less environmental inequality, countering terrorism, harnessing artificial intelligence and plotting a more equal partnership with Africa top his three-day agenda.
• Are you ready for some (college) football? The season finally begins at noon ET. The night’s biggest games include Florida vs. Miami at 7 ET on ESPN and Arizona vs. Hawaii at 10:30 ET on CBS Sports Network.
